In response to entry from : Mario Taofiono MON 02/03/03 7.52pm Thanks for your entry Mario Yes I did practice Chidokan Karate back in the late 70's and by the sounds of things we could have been in the same class. I am sorry but your name doesn't ring bells for me at this stage, that was a long time ago ! I am sure we would have spent many long hours on our knuckles doing press ups though if we were both doing Chidokan at that time. Nice to hear from you. Good luck with your training Sifu Dave C Jones

In response to entry from: Jillian Challis TUES - 2/11/03 12.10PM Hi Jillian In reponse to your query Jillian, it is hard to comment about how you are feeling but I can only make a few suggestions. One is that anything good takes time. Although you have been practicing WC for a year now, it may take a little longer to start feeling that you have fully absorbed its depth. On the other hand if you are genuinely not enjoying what you are doing, then you are gaining little from it. Not knowing your Sifu I can only generalise, however it is disappointing to hear his attitude in relation to not ecouraging you to explore your art further. If you want guidance the best I can offer you is this, I personally feel that the only person regardless of what advice you get from anyone, that can do what is right, is you. Go with your gut feeling, learn to trust it, and do what makes you feel good about yourself. If you feel that your efforts could best be served widening your knowledge in another style or school then you know what you must do. You have to be a little bit selfish here, within reason of course. We have relitively short lives here so make the best of it. I am sure you will make the right decision. Good luck. Kind regards Sifu Dave C Jones

Hi Mr Jones can I ask you a question please My name is Jillian and I have been practicing Wing Chun for about a year now. I dont feel like I am getting anywhere, I know the basics and think I am o.k with it all, however it doesn't hold my interest at times, is this a sign that it may not be for me or should I just focus myself a little more ? I do like the martial arts and want to continue, but when I suggested learning another style as well to my Sifu he went mad and said that if I did that I would have to leave the class. Your advice would be appreciated ! Kind regards Jillian

Hello Sifu Jones My name is Colin from Tigerstrike Karate in NSW Australia. I really like the web site, love the words when you say that martial arts is a whole movement, and that we need to use our minds as focus to control the movements. This is so true, and I am constantly trying to put this message across in our Dojo to the students. I think you have really touched on something special here. Your philosophy seems common sense and you speak in a down to earth way which is refreshing. I would welcome you to our Organisation should you ever be in the area, I would like the chance for you to meet with me and the class and demonstrate your principles. Although your style or system isnot strictly within our frame work of technique, I believe that we could all learn some useful principles from you and a sharing of techniques and information is always advantageous between schools. Let me know in advance if you want a visit and I can fit this into the class, we normally practice on Mondays and Thursdays from 7.00 to 9.30pm. My contact number from NZ will be 0061 I think then 2 4653 08985 - so 0061 2 4653 08985. Regards Sensei Colin Lee Tigerstrike Karate NSW

Hi Sifu I love the web site, stumbled onto it when scanning the nz web pages for clubs just out of interest. You must be the only person I have heard of in NZ to be so bold as to ' Go against tradition ' and create something new, how exciting. Mind you I dont think anyone will argue with you !I am a blue belt have been practicing Shotokan for about 2 years on and off it rather classical but is powerful. If you ever come down to christchurch I would love to have the opportunity to train with you or receive instruction in the system. Keep up the good work, it all looks really good. Kind regards Greg williams
